An excerpt/adaptation from the book End Times Explained: 7 Little-Known Keys To Understanding the Book of Revelation

You have probably heard about the alleged “2012 conspiracy” – you may have even seen the recent movie 2012. In short, many people are claiming that “the end of the world as we know it” will occur in 2012 because the ancient Mayan calendar ends on December 21 of that year. Depending on who you listen to, many people claim it will occur because “Planet X” is nearing earth, our governments know it but are hiding it, and when it comes near enough there will be unprecedented natural disasters such as earthquakes (and the resulting tsunamis), etc. It will essentially be “the end of the world as we know it”.

Astoundingly, according to the Bible, these claims are not too far from the truth, except for the Mayan calendar nonsense and the exact date. Let me show you.

Revelation 6:12-17 and 8:1-12 tell us that some time in the future (I’ll discuss the timing of it later), there will be massive natural disasters caused by something happening in the sky – a “star” the Bible calls Wormwood, drawing near to earth. The first inkling the masses of mankind will have that there is something wrong will be the onset of a massive worldwide earthquake (Rev. 6:12-17).

Christ corroborates this in Matthew 24:7-8 where He said, “There will be earthquakes in various places”. One ancient manuscript says “in every place”, which would of course match up even more perfectly with the account of the 6th Seal in Revelation.

Jesus calls this onset of worldwide earthquakes “the beginning of birth pangs”. Most of Christianity fails to put two and two together and match up Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:7-8 with the 6th Seal of Revelation. Therefore they think we are already in the “birth pangs” stage of the end times. We are not.

Remember that in a pregnancy, once the birth pangs start, the end of the pregnancy is very, very close. Most Christians seem to think that the birth pangs stage of the end times is dragging on for many centuries – after all, there have been earthquakes in various places for a long time.

But when you realize that the Hebrew manuscript that says “in every place” is probably more accurate (and that when Jesus mentioned "earthquakes in various places" He meant "earthquakes in various places at the same time), suddenly Jesus’ words line up perfectly with the 6th Seal. Suddenly Jesus’ “birth pangs” analogy makes a lot more sense because it lines up much better with the reality of a real birth.

You see, in a natural birth, once the birth pangs start, that baby is gonna pop out within 24 hours – although Mommy has been waiting 9 months. Once the “beginning of birth pangs” – the 6th Seal worldwide earthquake – hits, the events Godly people throughout history have been waiting for (the rapture, the end of this age & the beginning of Christ’s earthly reign) are going to occur within a very short period of time (a few years) – although we’ve been waiting many thousands of years.

Also keep in mind that the beginning of birth pangs for an expectant mother is a very easily marked moment in time. If you think Jesus said “various places” (with the assumption that these occur at various times), how can you ever know which earthquake marks the beginning of birth pangs? Jesus’ analogy falls apart if He said “in various places (at various times)”! Jesus’ analogy only works if He said “in every place” or "in various places (at the same time)".

A worldwide earthquake is an easily identifiable moment in time. An expectant mother knows exactly when the birth pangs start – the pain hits! In the same way, everyone on earth will know exactly when “the end of the world as we know it” (my term, not a Scriptural term) has arrived – the pain will hit! The wise will recognize this pain (the worldwide earthquake) as “the beginning of birth pangs” Jesus referred to.

Jesus said there will be birth pangs – plural. The worldwide earthquake will be the beginning (the first) of the birth pangs. But after that, according to Jesus in Matthew 24:7-8, there will come more "birth pangs" including “nation rising against nation”. Obviously, nations have been rising against each other for thousands of years. Again, in order for Jesus’ analogy to work, there must be an easily identifiable point in time that marks the beginning of birth pains.

The 6th Seal worldwide earthquake is this easily identifiable moment.

Yes, the book of Revelation tells us there will be significant wars after the 6th seal (see my $7 E-Book End Times Explained), thus matching Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:7-8 perfectly. We will know these wars are “birth pangs” and that they are occurring very near to the end of this age, because the worldwide earthquake marked for us the beginning of birth pangs.

Before I go into any more detail in this incredibly important subject, I want you to know that God has provided a way of escape from all these things for the wise who see it coming beforehand. The wise who know what to do (this will be a sub-segment of Christians, not all of them, as I prove in my book) will be able to escape not only the 6th Seal worldwide earthquakes, but eventually the persecution of the antichrist as well. This is not an “ultimate salvation” issue, just a “comfort/safety in the end times” issue.

Most believers, like the rest of mankind, will be blindsided by the 6th Seal, but a few wise ones will know where to go and what to do before it occurs. There are some non-believers who already know that “Planet X” is incoming, but they do not know the Bible’s instructions for escaping its effects. An underground bunker and some food and water will not be enough. You will have to know the escape instructions God has placed in the Bible. Only the Bible reveals the one sure-fire “safe location” where the wise will be protected from the effects of Wormwood/Planet X passing close to earth.

In general, at some point before the 6th Seal, the wise will travel to God’s designated location to escape its effects – and in that location (a location clearly given in Scripture) they will be in perfect position to move to another nearby location (also clearly given in Scripture) where they will be protected from the antichrist.

The 6th Seal, the worldwide earthquake, will be a drastic turning point in history. It will essentially be the end of the world as we know it. Think about it – “every mountain and island will be moved out of its place” (Rev. 6:14). (See the book to learn why we must take this statement literally and do not have the liberty to take it symbolically.) There will be massive tsunamis and incredible winds. The people of the earth understandably will run to high places to escape the tsunamis and into caves to escape the winds. There will be devastation and chaos on a scale modern humanity has never imagined.

It will be like ten disaster movies put together. (The closest thing to help you imagine it would be the recent movie 2012). The transportation systems and the food supply with it, will be massively disrupted and the huge city-dwelling populations of the earth, in addition to many of their buildings falling on them, will have to deal with tremendous shortages of food and clean water. Millions – maybe even billions – will die in the earthquakes and tsunamis, and the death toll will continue to rise as starvation and looting/rioting take hold.

Imagine the desperation and chaos. It is no wonder the (ignorant, caught-by-surprise) masses will think the wrath of God has come (see Rev. 6:16-17). We must be careful to note that the Bible doesn’t say this is God’s wrath, only ignorant people do. The Bible only records the fact that ignorant, clueless people will “It must be God’s wrath”.

The 6th Seal worldwide earthquake will not be the wrath of God, it will just be drastic trouble/tribulation. God tells us plainly that His wrath begins with the “7 Bowls of Wrath” of Revelation chapter 16 (which will occur some time after the 6th Seal).

Now let’s answer the obvious question: What will cause this massive worldwide earthquake?

It is obviously something that will happen in the sky – in Revelation 6:12-14 we see John using the best language he can think of (in his scientifically limited ancient vocabulary) to describe what he sees happening in the sky. But what? For the answer, we must look to what happens after the earthquake.

What happens after the 6th Seal? First there is an interlude in Revelation chapter 7, which highlights the 6th Seal’s incredible importance. (See my book to learn why God placed the interludes in Revelation to highlight certain extremely important events.) The 6th Seal is extremely important because it is “the beginning of birth pangs” (Jesus’ words) and “the end of the world as we know it” (my words).

Then chapter 8 starts telling us about the trumpets. When the 1st Trumpet is blown (all this trumpet-blowing and seal-opening in heaven, etc. obviously occurs outside the perception of mankind on earth – but the earthly results will be impossible to miss), what happens?

Well, one third of the earth and all the green grass will burned by falling meteorites. Then comes the 2nd Trumpet, a massive meteorite that will hit the ocean and devastate one third of the water, sea life, and ships. I’m going to skip the 3rd Trumpet for a moment, and go to the 4th Trumpet, which tells us that one third of the sky will be covered (probably by smoke from one third of the earth burning).

What could possibly cause all this? Is there something the Bible reveals to us which could logically cause all these things to happen?

Absolutely. An incoming "star" (the apostle John, the author of Revelation would have used this word to describe any heavenly body he saw in the vision) - or in modern jargon, "Planet X". Just like many of the modern 2012 conspiracy rumors going around claim (and the movie 2012 brilliantly illustrates even if the movie is not factual), if the elite leaders of the world know about this incoming disaster, they will not tell the masses about it until it is too late. The fact is, even if the masses knew about it beforehand there would be little they could do to escape its effects anyway.
