Bible Verses About Healing, Miracles, and Tongues: Little-Known Insights
Helpful Insights Regarding Bible Verses About Healing, Miracles, and Tongues, by Marc SpeedIn this article I'm going to give you some powerful insights into the Bible verses about healing, miracles, and tongues that cause confusion to some people. First you'll learn the Biblical, logical reason why healings and miracles seem not to be as powerful (or at least not as obvious to the world around us) today as in Jesus' and His disciples' ministry, solving a mystery that has confounded believers everywhere. This is essential to understand so you don't get frustrated in trying to receive healing, or operating in a healing ministry. Then I'll explain the basics of how to tap into the healing power of God's Word. If you or a loved one is in need of a healing, you'll be helped. And along the way I'll talk a little about the controversial subject of speaking in tongues and hopefully shed a little bit of Scriptural and logical light on it for you. Here we go. I’m definitely not one of those people who believes all supernatural manifestations of God’s power “went out when the Bible came in”. Some Christians try to prove that idea with 1 Corinthians 13:8-12, which doesn’t say any such thing. The text itself says plainly that the “perfect” which will eventually cause tongues and prophecy to be unnecessary is seeing Jesus “face to face”. Simple. I mean, after the rapture, when I can see Jesus face to face, why would I need a prophecy from a brother in Christ (Jesus talking to me through him – “the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”, Rev. 19:10) when I can just walk up to Jesus and start talking to Him myself? What I'm saying is, the only Bible verse that comes even remotely close to saying “God doesn’t operate supernaturally anymore”, doesn’t actually say that at all. 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 doesn't say the coming of the Bible will cause tongues and prophecy to cease (in fact it doesn't mention the Bible or God's Word at all), rather it clearly tells us something that makes perfect logical sense: when we finally see Jesus "face to face", tongues and prophecy will cease because there will be no need for them anymore. See my article on Tongues in the More Questions section of this website to learn why the #1 Rule of Bible Interpretation (which is the same as the #1 Rule of Communication) proves that 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 does not talk about the supernatural workings of God going away before Jesus returns. People who claim God doesn't do anything supernatural anymore must also essentially claim that millions upon millions of people around the world who have experienced the gifts of the Spirit exactly as explained by Paul in 1 Corinthians 12, are crazy liars who have made it all up. Personally, I’ve had many (hundreds of) undeniable supernatural experiences where I’ve seen God move through others (and also through me) in the gifts of the Spirit just as Paul describes them in 1 Corinthians 12 through 14. This includes one of my best friends in college who could not hear out of one ear (she had been like this for years) and was instantly healed (she could suddenly and instantly hear out of it again) when someone prayed for her in the name of Jesus. Now, that being said, I’ve been around a lot of Charismatic churches, believers, and movements, and it is obvious to me that in even the most powerful Charismatic circles the demonstration of supernatural power today is significantly below that which we see in the ministry of Jesus and in the beginning of the book of Acts. Why is that? This is a question that plagues Bible-readers everywhere! Some people in the Charismatic movement say “we just don’t have enough faith to make it happen like Jesus did”. There may be something to that – we certainly are not at Jesus’ level when it comes to faith. However, Jesus’ 12 (and 70) disciples were obviously just regular people like you and me, and they seemed to have no trouble at all getting pretty much everybody around them healed in many cases, seemingly without much effort. So this argument doesn’t totally hold water with me. At least, it’s not the complete answer. When it comes to Bible verses about healing and miracles, some people quote John 14:12 where Jesus said “he who believes in Me will do even greater works than these” and say, “well, we should be doing greater works then!” The only problem is, I don’t know anybody in the last 2000 years or in modern times who has even gotten close to the consistent level of healing power Jesus and the disciples (and Peter in Acts) walked in. This includes John G. Lake, Smith Wigglesworth and others, who certainly had spectacular gifts of miracles and healing a la 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 but still did not consistently walk in the level of power Jesus did, much less top it. The disciples who walked with Jesus during the “impending coming Kingdom era” seem like they were much less mature (they only had a couple years with Jesus!) than guys like Lake and Wigglesworth, yet they had more power, seemingly effortlessly. Why? How could this be? Here’s the answer. The key to understanding this issue is something most of Christianity is totally unaware of: the difference between Jesus’ mission and Paul’s mission. It is impossible to properly understand many Bible verses about healing and miracles without understanding this issue. Jesus and His disciples had a different mission to a different group of people than Paul did. Our mission today is the same as Paul’s was - Paul was chosen by God to pioneer the current stage of God’s plan in which we now live. I explain this fully in my article The Kingdom Time-Gap, but I’ll give you the Cliff Notes version here because it’s essential for understanding the operation of God’s supernatural power in this age. Hang with me through this brief explanation because it's going to shed great light on many Bible verses about healing and miracles, and how God's supernatural healing power operates today, which will help you know how to tap into it correctly. Jesus’ and His disciples’ job was to preach to the Israelites. Did you ever wonder why Jesus didn't preach to the whole world, but only to Israel? You're about to find out... Jesus' message was, if Israel would accept Him as Messiah, the Kingdom of God would come to earth and they (Israel) would reign with Him within their lifetimes. The key to understanding this is Matthew 24:34, accurately translated showing the conditional nature of the Kingdom coming within that generation. When Israel rejected Christ and killed Him, that was strike one. Then, after Jesus' resurrection, Israel and Jerusalem as a whole rejected the disciples' message again (as recorded in Acts - some listened but most didn't). That was strike two, and in this case 2 strikes was all they got. At this point God moved on to the next stage of His plan - choosing Paul to jumpstart the "salvation by grace for the whole world" message, temporarily postponing the promises God had given Israel through the prophets that they would rule over the earth with Christ. You see, Jesus' and His disciples' whole message was to Israel, and it was the "gospel (good news) of the soon-coming (they called it 'at hand') Kingdom of God, if they accepted Jesus as the Messiah". But Israel rejected Christ twice. This did not surprise God, in fact it was all part of His plan (see my E-Book Hell Is A Mistranslation to find out why). Stay with me here, we're going to get to the application for healing in a second... We must remember that Jesus’ famous “great commission” to the disciples, which most Christians misinterpret as an instruction for the disciples to immediately go to the nations, involved going to Israel first, before going to any nations. It was really just giving Israel another chance to accept Jesus' original message, and if they listened this time, then it would make sense to go to the nations. It was Jesus basically saying "Go give Israel another chance, using my resurrection to prove I'm the Messiah this time". We see how Jesus instructed His disciples to start in Jerusalem, and then, if Jerusalem cooperated, to move on and “make disciples” of the other nations (not individual people). But the disciples never left Jerusalem (at least not until they were forced to by persecution). Why? Because Jerusalem and Israel didn’t accept their message, so there was no point going anywhere else. It would be like trying to take over the U.S. without securing Washington’s cooperation first. What would be the point of trying to make all the other nations "do everything Jesus commanded" if not even Israel was doing it? So, when (according to God’s grand plan) Israel rejected this “Kingdom coming soon” message not once, but twice, God then postponed bringing the Kingdom of God to earth until what we now call the future millennium (Rev. 20:4-6), and He gave Paul a brand new message (salvation by grace through faith) to a new group of people (the whole world). Paul was the first to be commissioned by God with the same commission we modern believers have today, which is to be “ambassadors of reconciliation” (salvation by grace through faith) to individuals. This is why no nations have been “made disciples” (there is not a single nation on earth that makes its laws explicitly according to God's law and God's rules), but many individuals have been reconciled to God. This is because during this stage in God’s plan there are not supposed to be any whole nations “getting it” or “operating by Jesus’ rules” – that’s been postponed until the next age (the millennium). Right now, in this stage in God’s plan, only some individuals are going to come to God. The nations as a whole are going to continue going downhill until they are all wrapped up in the antichrist’s one-world government. (See my E-Book Hell Is A Mistranslation section of this website for more on God’s overall plan for mankind, and my E-Book End Times Explained for more info on the world's downhill spiral into the end times.) So we see that Jesus and His twelve disciples preached a message to Israel that was about the Israelites earning the right (through good behavior and believing that Jesus was the Messiah) to reign with Jesus in the next age, which they were being given a chance to see come within their lifetimes. On the other hand, the apostle Paul was given a brand new message for the whole world, not just for Israel. This new message was about what Jesus accomplished for the world and how His death and resurrection not only justified all mankind before God (Rom. 3:23-24, 5:18, Col. 1:20), but also made it possible for some people in this age (chosen by God - Eph. 1:4) to believe in Christ and get saved from death early (take part in the rapture) by grace through faith. Paul's new message is for reconciling individuals to God, not trying to get nations to operate by God's rules and laws. I explain more about the difference between Jesus' gospel to Israel and Paul's gospel to the whole world in my article about The Kingdom Time-Gap in the More Questions section of this site. (The article is an excerpt from a chapter in the E-Book Hell Is A Mistranslation.) How the Difference Between Jesus' and Paul's Gospel Solves A Dilemma About Supernatural Healing Today Now, what does this have to do with healing? Well, the difference between Jesus’ and Paul’s mission also explains the difference between the demonstrations of supernatural power in the ministry of Jesus and His disciples, and what we see in Paul’s ministry and the church’s ministry today. The level and type of power available to Jesus and the disciples was what I call “Kingdom demonstration power”, and it reflected the fact that it was meant to be a full-out demonstration to the Israelites (a large group of people in a certain geographical area, a whole nation!) of the power of the Kingdom of God when it comes on earth. In this Kingdom demonstration power, we see a small group of people (Jesus and his 70 disciples) frequently healing every single person in huge crowds of people with all sorts of physical problems. The power was so great and so obvious and so "out in the open" that Jesus' worst enemies could not deny it! Contrast this with today, where although miracles and healings certainly happen (my friend's ear being healed for example), they just aren't so "in the world's face" if you know what I mean. That's because today we have what I would call “down-payment power” based on 2 Corinthians 1:22, where Paul explains that believers at this stage in God’s plan have a “down-payment” of the Holy Spirit (the full payment will come only in the next age after we are raptured and in immortal bodies). This down-payment power reflects the fact that in this age God is not trying to demonstrate to anyone that the Kingdom is about to come, but rather He is trying to minister to a (relatively few) individuals. A down-payment is only a percentage of the whole shebang. Jesus and His (immature, barely-trained) disciples had the whole shebang - Kingdom demonstration power. It was concentrated in just 70 people! In contrast, we today have down-payment power, spread out amongst millions! This does not mean that God cannot or will not do for you or someone else, a miracle as great as any Jesus did, it just means that He's not trying to make it as obvious to any one group of people. He's not trying to "show it off" as much. (Again, see my articles in the Hell Mistranslation section to see WHY He's not trying to demonstrate the power of His Kingdom in an obvious undeniable way to everyone in this age.) As I said, the down-payment power differs greatly from Jesus’ and the disciples’ Kingdom-demonstration power primarily in the way it is distributed. In contrast to the 12 and 70 disciples of Jesus who seemed to be able to perform all sorts of healings and miracles, etc. with no real distinction between them as far as “who had what gift”, Paul outlines for us in 1 Corinthians 12 how in this down-payment stage of God’s plan, different supernatural gifts are given to different believers. This makes perfect sense when you realize that one of God’s primary goals in this age is to train His chosen ones (Eph. 1:4) to work as a team (we’ll have to do that extensively when we help rule the world with Him in the next age - see Rev. 20:6). Obviously the number of believers operating in today’s down-payment power is much larger than 12 or 70 people. Today’s massive group of believers have access to the power through a down-payment of the Spirit (2 Cor. 1:22), a “preview” if you will, of Kingdom power, which is intended as a sign (1 Cor. 14:22) to SOME people in this age, not to a whole nation like Jesus' and his disciples' power was. This "preview power for a few" power in this stage of God's plan, manifests itself as gifts of the Spirit divided amongst believers. So today we have “down-payment sneak preview power” operating in millions of believers rather than “impending Kingdom demonstration power” operating in a perfect One (Jesus) and 70 or so close trainees of the perfect One. Two Differences Between Down-Payment Power and Impending Kingdom Demonstration Power So this “down-payment sneak preview power” seems to differ from the “impending Kingdom demonstration power” of Jesus and the disciples in two key ways: First, today’s supernatural power is divided amongst nine distinct supernatural gifts (outlined by Paul in 1 Cor. 12), and every person has differing gifts, (and seemingly no one or very few have all the gifts, in fullness at least). On the other hand, with Jesus’ and His disciples’ supernatural power there was no distinction of gifts being used – it seemed every individual disciple had all the power they needed without the need to rely on their comrades who were gifted differently. It seems the reason God distributes the power differently in this stage where Paul’s gospel is being preached, is that, as Paul makes clear in 1 Corinthians 12, we are supposed to learn to build each other up in addition to demonstrating God’s supernatural power to some outside individuals. On the other hand, Jesus' and His disciples' gospel had nothing at all to do with the disciples building each other up, and everything to do with demonstrating the power of the Kingdom in full force to a whole nation (Israel). The second difference between today’s supernatural power and that of Jesus' days was the addition after Jesus left earth of two forms of one new gift – the gift of speaking in tongues. The reason for the addition of this gift was that Jesus was no longer on earth where people could see Him physically with their own two eyes, and the gift of tongues is, as Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14, is for the purpose of a sign (to point to the invisible Christ) both to some unbelievers and to believers, to build up their faith (in the invisible Christ). Like I said, there are two forms of this “new” gift. One is what we see at Pentecost, where the disciples supernaturally spoke human languages they didn’t know mentally, and were understood by other humans who mentally knew those languages. This form of the gift of tongues is still in operation today. Although it doesn’t seem to happen very often (at least in my experience), I do personally know people who have experienced it. The second form of tongues is what Paul talks about in 1 Corinthians 13:1 and 14:14, 18-19, where the language is perhaps angelic or perhaps not understood by any human, because the purpose of it is for the personal edification of the speaker who is not doing it in public, but in private, for communion with God and/or prayer that bypasses their limited human mind thus enabling them to pray efficiently and effectively about things they don’t even know about mentally (see Rom. 8:26). A lot of people who say “God no longer operates in the gifts of the Spirit today” insist that “people babbling to themselves in tongues are crazy”. These people need to read 1 Corinthians 14. They don’t understand that there are two forms of tongues outlined clearly by Paul in 1 Corinthians, one for public use (sometimes understood directly by someone other than the speaker in a different human language that the speaker doesn’t know mentally, and sometimes in a language no one present understands but an interpretation is given by the Spirit through the speaker or through another), and one for private edification. No one is ever “babbling to themselves”, they are praying to God privately in a way that bypasses their mind so as to not be limited by their finite mind, or, if done in an orderly fashion in a public meeting, they could be bringing a message from God to the congregation or to an individual with tongues and interpretation. The other confusing thing to many people about tongues is the whole question of “is the baptism of the Spirit separate from ‘getting saved’ and getting a ‘down payment’ of the Spirit”, and if so, “is speaking in tongues the only proof that a person has been baptized in the Spirit”. I’m not going to go into that in this article, because it is a separate subject worthy of its own article; hopefully I’ll have time to write one on this subject soon. Now, before I close this article I want to talk some more about healing, because besides tongues it seems to be the other big confusing thing for people when it comes to God’s supernatural power in operation today. I want to point out that the general principle of God’s will for healing is the same today as it was in Jesus’ days. God may change His operating method somewhat at different stages in His grand plan, but His core love nature doesn’t change (1 John 4:8). Understanding God's nature is essential to understanding Bible verses about healing. Vital Information About Biblical Healing Today God is a loving Father, and although He is allowing the world in general to go through a lot of trouble (mostly of their own making) in this age (see my E-Book Hell Is A Mistranslation to see why He is allowing this), still His core underlying nature doesn’t change. This means there is no reason those who know Him and walk with Him should have to wonder whether He wants them healthy or not. Some people wonder why God seemed so harsh in parts of the Old Testament, even causing plagues amongst the Israelites at times. It is important to realize that God only did that during one period during this age. God has to create a big "videotape" of human history so to speak, to show to mankind at the white throne, which will remove all excuses from mankind, so that they will receive God's correction. (See my articles in the Hell Mistranslation section of this website to understand this better.) One part of the "videotape" God had to include in order to remove the excuse "Well, if You would've corrected us more quickly and harshly, we would've been smarter" was a section where He DID quickly correct and punish a group of people (the Israelites) during a certain period of time (the law period). The Israelites had every type of good instruction to boot - yet they still weren't smart. When mankind watches this "episode" at the white throne (you understand I'm not speaking literally, but you get my point), one more excuse will be removed from mankind's hearts. Just because God had to harshly and quickly punish and correct a (relatively small) group of people in various ways (one of which included inducing a plague or sickness etc.) during a (relatively small) period in history, to make an important point to mankind later and remove another of their excuses, doesn't mean that His nature is not that of a loving Father who wants people healthy. God does have different purposes for certain ages or stages in history, in which He sometimes used different methods of operation, but the "law of Moses" method of operation is not in effect for modern believers. (See the writings of Paul in the New Testament.) And I don’t see anywhere in Scripture that God’s love for people and general desire that they be healthy has ever changed. Jesus said “If you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father” (John 14:9) – and every single person who came to Jesus in faith for healing, got healed. Jesus revealed that God wants people healthy. This is where there are so many Bible verses about healing. At the same time we must understand that most people in this age will not come to God or seek God, and God is allowing this for a purpose – again, see my E-Book Hell Is A Mistranslation . Therefore, most people in this age will not live completely healthy lives (as will be the case in the millennium, for example, when Jesus is running the world and the Kingdom of God has come to earth). Another thing that has not changed from Jesus’ days (or even from the Old Testament days when people came to God for healing through prophets, etc.) is the requirement to come to God IN FAITH to receive anything (including healing) from Him. Even Jesus worked with people until they believed He wanted to and could heal them, before healing them! So we must also understand that coming to God with simple child-like faith to be healed is sometimes difficult with so much negative influence in the world in this age, even if you think you know how to do it. For example, I know one Godly man who for years has prayed for others and seen many legitimate physical healings in his ministry through the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12) – yet his own daughter died at the age of 18 from a disease, despite their prayers and obviously earnest attempts to “have faith for healing”. Does this mean God wanted this girl to die at 18? Does it mean “she was a flower that God plucked because He wanted her close to Him” or some such ridiculous unscriptural nonsense? Of course not. It just means that in this evil age it is very difficult to have perfect faith all of the time, even for men of God who operate in the gifts of the Spirit powerfully at times. Now, if this girl had lived 2,000 years ago and had been brought to Jesus, would she have been healed? You can bet your bottom dollar. But Jesus was the Son of God, and even though He operated as a man He had perfect faith. It’s simply unrealistic to expect yourself or anyone else to operate at that level, all the time. Not that you can’t aim for it, but if it doesn’t seem to “work” at some point, don’t start getting confused and think that God suddenly is not a loving Father who wants you healed. Rather realize that your faith may not be perfect yet – and keep holding on to God’s Word and will for healing. So what if you’re not perfect yet? Big deal. What’s new? I’m not perfect yet either. Don't blame your understandably imperfect faith on a non-existent change in God's nature and will to heal. So we can see very clearly through the words of Jesus in John 14:9 that God’s ultimate will would be for everyone to be healed (although from the rest of Scripture we know He is allowing this not to be the case during this age). God’s will for healing is demonstrated by the simple fact that every single person recorded in Scripture who came to Jesus in faith for healing, was healed (and if they came not in faith, Jesus worked with them until they were in faith). And again, remember Jesus was operating in Kingdom demonstration mode. So when the Kingdom comes to earth in the millennium, there will be no sickness, disease, or physical problems. Perfect health for everyone is obviously God’s “ultimate, perfect” will. It bothers me when I hear Christians saying “God, your will be done, if you want this cancer to kill me, ok, I accept that.” Would you say that to your earthly dad? If your earthly dad actually wanted you to die of cancer, he belongs in the looney bin! Some Christians actually go so far as to think God gave them the cancer! If I gave my child cancer on purpose, they’d lock me up in jail for life! And rightly so! God, as a loving Father, definitely does teach us lessons, but He doesn’t have to make us sick or break our leg to do it any more than your earthly dad has to do that to teach you something. On the contrary, pretty much every time Jesus commented on the cause of the physical problem when He healed someone, He blamed it on Satan. John 10:10 also makes this ultra-clear – “The thief (Satan) comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come that you might have abundant life.” Yes, God is allowing Satan to operate in this age, and even to be “god of this age” (2 Cor. 4:4), for a reason. You see, God knew before He ever created the universe and the earth and put humans on it, that cancer was going to kill a lot of people in the 20th century, and that people were going to experience a lot of trouble and pain in this age, and that He was going to allow Satan to run rampant (to a point) in this age. It’s a necessary part of His grand plan – at some point He has to let humanity’s stupidity and sin run its course, including letting humanity as a whole reap the consequences of Adam’s and their own sin (consequences which are accelerated and exacerbated by Satan’s activity). But just because God is allowing humanity to go through a tough period, doesn’t mean He enjoys watching people suffer. Nor does it mean those who are close to Him in this age by His grace (Eph. 1:4) can’t enjoy “down-payment benefits”, one of which is healing (1 Cor. 12). (See the articles in the Hell Mistranslation section of this website for more details on God’s thinking process and grand plan for the ages as revealed in the accurately translated Bible.) Some people say “Yeah, but when I got cancer I got so close to God while I was sitting in the hospital bed for 3 months.” Well, you’d better get closer to God if all you’ve got to do is sit there for three months! What else is there to do?!?! Just because you had nothing else to do for three months and used the time wisely to get closer to God doesn’t mean He gave you the cancer. Let’s use common sense here and stick to the testimony of the Scriptures, not mere human speculation. It’s very important not to get overcomplicated when it comes to the issue of healing. God is a good, loving Dad. A good dad will let some of his 18-year-old rebellious kids (of which the majority of humanity in this age is the equivalent) make their own choices and reap the consequences, though he won’t enjoy watching the process. At the same time, if he’s got a few 18-year-olds who stick close to Him, love Him, do their best to follow His advice, and cooperate with Him, why would He not provide healing for them? So, although perfect health for everyone is obviously God’s “ultimate, perfect” will, for the purposes of teaching mankind the consequences of sin, He is obviously allowing a lot of physical problems amongst mankind in this age. He does this out of necessity during this age to teach mankind an eternal lesson about the consequences of doing things differently than His way – not because He enjoys it, any more than any of us would enjoy watching our kids be sick or in pain. God obviously allows a lot of horrible stuff in this age as part of a very vivid eternal lesson for mankind. But in the perspective of eternity, is a few thousand years of experiencing some pain in order to learn a valuable lesson which will enable us to live without pain for trillions upon trillions of years, any big deal? Nope. (Especially when you realize that people who “die early”, etc., are not experiencing hell but rather are unconscious and are at worst missing out on a few not-so-easy-anyway years on earth during this most difficult of all stages in God’s plan. See the articles in the Hell Mistranslation section of this website.) Another thing some Christians (and non-Christians too) have trouble with is the concept that God requires faith in order to receive anything from Him in this age. You can’t get saved without faith. You can’t get healed without faith (usually, unless a gift of the Spirit operating through someone else does the job). Why does God insist on us using faith in this age? It would be so much easier if He just did everything for us no matter what our faith level was! But what would that train us to do? It would train us to be stupid and lazy. It would teach us that we don’t need to trust and rely on Him. God requires faith of His children (including in the realm of healing) in this age to train us to trust Him and rely on His Word. Remember, one of God’s main goals for this age is to train His future leadership team. We are training for reigning. How good a leadership team would we be in the future if we were constantly thinking and saying amongst each other, “I don’t know if Jesus’ plan is really going to work, I don’t know if He’s going to keep His word on this, maybe we should figure out our own plan…” See what I mean? God must train us in this age to trust Him and rely on His Word without doubting, and one of the ways He trains us to do that is by requiring faith of us to receive anything from Him in this age. So in conclusion, it’s very clear in Scripture that a) the way God distributes supernatural power under Paul’s gospel is quite different than under Jesus’ gospel, and God has a good reason for doing this (teaching us to build each other up and rely on each others' gifts) b) God’s general will for us is health – we don’t have to wonder “does God want to heal me?” Of course He does. Would you want your kids to be sick and in pain? (The fact that many people who don’t know and understand God in this age experience lots of physical problems doesn’t mean we who know God have to!) Why do you think God made the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12) available? Why else? To heal His church and others that come in contact with His church. He does this because He loves His church, and they do get some special benefits that unbelievers don’t get in this age; these special benefits will be part of the lesson for everyone else later at the white throne judgment, that obeying God pays. (See my articles in the Hell Mistranslation section of the website). God also operates in healing through His church because it’s a valuable demonstration of His power that will help some whom He chooses in this age (Eph. 1:4) come to know Him. So I have no question in my mind about the difference in the distribution of God’s supernatural power between Jesus’ and His disciples’ days, and Paul’s gospel days today. Nor do I have any question about the general overall will of God to heal His people and to use healing as a demonstration of His love, reality and power to help some people come to know Him in this age. Our original question, which I want to make sure you understand fully before I close this article is: Why does it seem the general level of power today is much lower than in Jesus’ days? I just want to make it super-clear: The Kingdom demonstration power operating through Jesus and His disciples was not ONLY to heal people because God loved them, it was ALSO meant to be a “full-out” demonstration of the power of the Kingdom to a whole nation – the Israelites. On the other hand, the power that manifests today, though it also manifests to heal people, does not have that secondary purpose (to demonstrate Kingdom power to a whole group of people in a big geographical area). The secondary purpose of down-payment healing power today is to minister to individuals, not to show off “what the Kingdom will be like” to a whole nation. That explains why God doesn’t usually do healings today in such a way that the whole world (or even a certain large geographical area) can’t deny it. Mainstream Christianity wants Him to do that, but He’s not doing it on purpose. Mainstream Christianity does not understand God’s grand plan of the ages because they are reading badly mistranslated Bibles – see the articles in the Hell Mistranslation section of this site. In this age God is letting humanity as a whole go deeper and deeper into the sewer on purpose. (Again, see the articles in the Hell Mistranslation of this website to find out why.) But you personally, dear reader, especially if you are a Christian, have every access to God’s healing power. The Samaritan woman referred to healing as “the children’s bread” (Matt. 15:21-28). Jesus honored her for her great faith, because she realized the simple, common-sense, logical, obvious (and Scripturally-proven, see John 4:19) fact that healing and health is just par for the course for a child of God. Now, there are two ways for you to access this power – through your own faith, or by getting prayed for by a believer who has a gift of healing (1 Cor. 12). You operate your own faith by constantly monitoring and controlling your thoughts and words so that they agree with God’s will for you – in other words you must constantly think and say “I’m healed”. If you don’t do this you are not trusting God in this area, plain and simple. Even if it “seems like” it’s “not working”, you are still pleasing God by continuing to make your thoughts and words line up with His Word and His will. Think about it, how would it seem to God if you went around thinking and saying “I wonder if I’m saved” or “I wonder if God loves me” every time you didn’t “feel” saved, when the reality is He has provided His own Son for you who has already provided for the reconciliation of the whole world to God with His blood (Rom. 5:18)! It’s the same with healing. There’s no reason to go around thinking “I wonder if God wants me healed” or “I wonder if I’m healed”. You are a child of God. Have the faith of the Samaritan woman. Healing is the children’s bread. It also helps to constantly fill your heart and mind with healing Scriptures. Who do you think all those Scriptures about healing, health, and protection are for? Dogs? Aliens? Your pet aardvark? Duh – they’re for US, God’s kids! The other way to get healed is to be prayed for by a person who is known to operate in the gift of the spirit of healing and/or miracles (see 1 Cor. 12). Especially if you have been struggling with a serious disease or physical problem, you may also want to go to a Christian meeting where there is a minister or a ministry team who operate regularly in the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12). Being prayed for by (and even just hanging around) someone who operates regularly in the gift of healing and/or the gift of miracles allows you to benefit from their faith and the gift of God on their life in addition to your own faith. I realize healing, miracles, and speaking in tongues are controversial issues, but I hope I’ve given you some Scriptural, logical thoughts today – some which you may have not heard before – which will benefit you. And as always, I encourage you to “test everything and hold on to what is good” in obedience to 1 Thessalonians 5:21. I never expect anyone to “just believe me” – rather I encourage you to test and examine everything I say. I would also say that even if you “agree to disagree” with me on the subject of this article (again, I recognize it is a very contentious subject amongst Christians), please don’t throw away everything I say – I believe you may learn some wonderful things from my other articles and resources. I especially recommend you read the articles in the Hell Mistranslation and the End Times Explained sections of my website. I’d be willing to bet you’ll get a dozen insights you’ve never heard before. Of course, if that’s the case, all the glory goes to God, it’s only by His grace I have any insight at all (Eph. 1:4, 2:8-9). Thanks for reading, be blessed, and be healthy.
